OUR LITERACY HISTORY

We are experienced primary school teachers, graded as Outstanding by both external and Ofsted-trained consultants.

We were commissioned to join specialist Literacy teams, ‘parachuted’ into failing schools to raise Literacy standards for pupils and improve First Quality Literacy Teaching. These experiences highlighted the essential practitioner skills needed for coaching and mentoring to impact on accelerating improvement.

We were integral to the development and implementation of school improvement plans including monitoring and evaluation, teaching & learning reviews underpinned by the Ofsted Framework (2014), target setting and pupil progress.

As early reading specialists our philosophy of reading teaching was cemented by postgraduate Reading Recovery training. This instilled in us the fundamentals of the acquisition of reading skills. Having taught children to read in a variety of different school settings (both maintained and independent across the U.K, New Zealand, the Middle East, Switzerland, Kenya and the USA), we strongly recommended the daily, focused and rigorous teaching of literacy skills within a whole language experience. This is the key to literacy success in schools.

Emanating from our own need for pre-reading, guided reading, speaking and listening and writing materials, we write supporting materials for published reading and writing resources.
